"greetings from america #13"
Sunday, October 28, 2007 11:13 PM

THE END IS HERE!

The Great BOB13 Greeting Card COLLABORATION is now complete. All 13 cards in the "greetings from america" series have been posted. (Along with the preceding "from the farm" series.) Your job: write your ideal message for the inside of all 26 cards.

Take your time, friends. Since I've missed the window of opportunity to sell these boxes for Christmas, I'm gonna take suggestions for each of the cards through the end of the year. On January 1 will announce the winning ideas for the "from the farm" and the "greetings from america" sets.  Then we'll go about the business of selling the bloody things. Until then...

Don't just sit there.

Bless us with your genius!

ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER CHANCE FOR YOU PEOPLE TO SHOW OFF YOUR CARD writing brilliance.

Oh, and there's been 24 other chances throughout the month of October at BOB13 for you to show what you've got.

You HAVE got it, right?

Too busy. Yeah. I understand. Think of me next time you're reading about Britney and Paris.

Oooh, not in THAT way. Pervs.

By the way, until I can figure out how to rectify the problem (hopefully soon), BOB13 will be hit with XXX-rated spam in the comments section several times a day. The only way to combat this right now is for you people to post a steady stream of PG-to-R-rated comments and/or greeting card ideas. Unless you're relying on the spam for your daily porn options.

Like I said before...PERVS!

And I say that with the utmost love and affection.

Until tomorrow, when we'll be posting the 13th and final installment of the Great Greating Card Collaboration of October 2007 (please peruse the rest of the October entries if you STILL don't know what the hell I'm talking about)...

IN HONOR OF MY DAD, WHO TURNED 69 TODAY, TODAY'S GREETING CARD IS a shot taken at San Onofre, the surfing beach I was introduced to in my childhood thanks to my one-time surfer dad. (Try to spot my pa in this or this classic San Onofre surf video I put together.)

Happy birthday, Pops. May 69 be as good to you as it's been to me.

As for the rest of you...

Don't just sit there staring at Surfer Girl's butt...write something!

DON'T DOG ME.

Collaborate!

Huh? asked the BOB13 newbie.

Complete this greeting card. What're you gonna read when you open the card?

Still confused? Scroll through the rest of October to get a clue. Then contribute an idea or 13.

ANOTHER CLASSIC PHOTO FROM VERMONT. MAY THE INSPIRATION FLOW, MY friends.

And while you're at it, get on the "from the farm" series, too.

Not sure what this COLLABORATION is all about? In a nutshell, we're asking that you complete this greeting card by writing what should go inside once you open the card.

Just do it!

WHEN YOU'RE DONE CONTRIBUTING YOUR IDEA(S) FOR TODAY'S GREAT Greeting Card COLLABORATION—provided, of course, you've already also contributed to the "from the farm" series—check out this twist on The Lord's Prayer. It was sent to me by Rhode Island Sherry, who's a verrrry happy Red Sox fan right now.

That makes 2 of us.

RED SOX PRAYER

Our Father, who art at Fenway...
Baseball be thy game.
Thy Kingdom come,
Playoffs need to be won,
On Earth, then on to the Cask 'n' Flagon.

Give us this day, a perfect Papi,
And forgive us our losses,
As we forgive those,
Like Bill Buckner.

And lead us not, into desperation,
But deliver us from any losses.

For thine is the Power,
And the Glory,
To beat the Indians,
Forever and ever....the Yankees suck

.
..
...

Rockies vs. Red Sox. I love it.

It's gonna be a classic. 21 out of 22 versus the 21st Century curse-free Red Sox.

In honor of one of my favorite Red Sox fans, my friend Blaze—who took me not only to Game 3 in Anaheim a couple weeks ago when the Red Sox closed out the Angels, but also hooked me up at Fenway for Game 3 of the Red Sox/Yankees playoff series in '03—I am posting one of my favorite "Blaze in Boston" pics. Getting licked by an extremely friendly chowderhead at a bar just beyond the centerfied wall at Fenway.

Go Blaze! Go Red Sox!

REMEMBER, THERE ARE NO WRONG ANSWERS!

You see a picture. The front of a greeting card. Your brain thinks of what you might find if you open the card.

Stream of consciousness style.

Unlocking the id? Role playing? Thinking about what "the public" wants? Trying to be clever? Writing for yourself? Writing for others? Writing for laughs?

Something happens when you look at a card and try to write what should go inside. The wheels of creativity start spinning. This is never a bad thing. In a couple days I will send out that long-delayed email to the 500+ inhabitants of my email address book, letting them know about my new Gmail email address. Oh, and my new blog—featuring this month's wild and wacky (okay, that's a stretch) Great Greeting Card COLLABORATION.

(To participate in the "from the farm" series go here.)

Go Red Sox!

Go Rockies!

TODAY'S BLANK GREETING CARD SELECTION IS TAKEN FROM A PHOTO I posted last year at TheGreatestYearOfMyLife.com. You gotta love the bratty little midtown schoolgirls flipping me off with such obvious relish. And how 'bout the Arsenio fingers on the black girl, who's giving me a double bird with unabashed gusto?!

Clearly, a scenario ripe for the front of a greeting card.

Have at it, kiddies.

And if you still haven't participated in the "from the farm" series, what the hell you waiting for?! Go here now!

Still not sated with enough BOB13ness? Check out this entry from the productive days of TGYOML. It's titled "tangents and transcendence" and it's one of my favorite sparks of inspiration in a long time.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.

ISN'T THIS FUN?!

C'mon. You're loving this. And if you're not, clearly you have morphed into a crotchety old coot. Tell me this isn't better for your brain than reading about the latest Lindsay Lohan debacle. Go on, tell me!

And when you're done with today's incarnation of The Great Greeting COLLABORATION and all the selections in the "from the farm" set, I suggest you read this brief interview with one of my all-time heroes, Bruce Springsteen.

And check out the Boss's sweet moatee in the photo.

'Cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run..."

Brooooooooooooooooce!

COME ON, PEOPLE!

This COLLABORATION-slash-contest is a chance for anyone who's ever opened up a greeting card and thought "I could do that" to actually back up their bullshit. Prove it. Think you could do better?

Let's see it.

Yeah. We thought you'd chicken out. Easier to criticize from the shadows than participate in the sunlight.

Or so you think.

And you'd be wrong.

Until tomorrow...

p.s. If you somehow muster up the cojones to take a stab at the cards in the "from the farm" set you can find them here. Participate or petrify.

round 2: the "greetings from america" series
Tuesday, October 16, 2007 11:13 PM

TO GET YOU STARTED...

Much more to come soon.

By the way, tonight I added all my ideas for each of the 13 "from the farm" cards. This time around, though, I'm gonna contribute my ideas as they come to me.

Don't be afraid to throw your meat and potatoes into the creative stew!

AND NOW, THE 13th AND FINAL GREETING CARD IN THE "FROM THE FARM" box set. We'll be taking entries until the end of the month, at which time I'll be tallying up the votes. So throw your ideas into the ring. Don't be shy. Make sure you've entered at least one idea for each card. They're all right here:

"from the farm #1"
"from the farm #2"
"from the farm #3"
"from the farm #4"
"from the farm #5"
"from the farm #6"
"from the farm #7"
"from the farm #8"
"from the farm #9"
"from the farm #10"
"from the farm #11"
"from the farm #12"

Tomorrow I'll post the idea I wrote for the cards back when I created this set last year. At the end of the month, once we've also gone through the 13-card "greetings from america" set, we'll pick our favorite 3 entries. At that point we'll leave our 13,013 readers to pick their favorites until November 13th, at which point we'll announce the winning entries.

And, voila! We've got us a couple boxes of original, funky greeting cards. The culmination of a worldwide collaboration.

Thanks for participating, earthlings.

p.s. Apologies for the porn spam that keeps popping up in the comments section these days. Unless, of course, you're enjoying that sort of thing. Not there's anything wrong with that.

Welcome to the party. You may now share your wit and wisdom with us mere mortals on the following Salt Spring Island winter greeting cards:
